Administering Anaesthesia
A Brow Lift is usually performed under a general anaesthetic, with anaesthesia given by a certified anaesthetist for your comfort.
Making the Incision
The type of surgical incision used can vary based on the specific needs and goals of the procedure. Two predominant methods are often considered:
Method 1: Endoscopic Incision. An endoscopic brow lift uses small incisions made within the hairline and an endoscope, which is a slim tube equipped with a camera. This minimally invasive technique, alongside other surgical instruments, enables Mr Yapa to adjust the tissue and muscle beneath the skin, directly addressing the root causes of visible forehead creases and furrows.
Method 2: Coronal Incision. Alternatively, a coronal incision may be used, extending from ear to ear across the top of the head, which is concealed within the hairline. Through this approach, the forehead skin is lifted, with any necessary muscle adjustments to be made under direct visualisation, with the resultant scar typically well hidden within the hair.
Different scenarios and aesthetic goals may dictate the use of alternative incision methods, such as an incision at the anterior hairline for women with high foreheads, to facilitate a brow lift without altering the height of the front hairline. This will be confirmed with you during your initial consultation.
Adjusting and Closing
Once the muscle and tissue have been adjusted to achieve a smooth forehead and a lifted brow, the incisions are closed with sutures, skin adhesives, or small clips, chosen to minimise scarring.

Combining an Endoscopic Brow Lift with an Endoscopic Facelift
The small hairline incisions used for an endoscopic brow lift also give access to the midface. Where appropriate, Mr Yapa can extend the same plane of dissection downwards over the cheekbone, allowing the cheek and midface to be released and elevated through the same incisions used to lift the brow.
This adds midface elevation to the result: the cheek is restored to a higher position, hollowing beneath the eye is improved, and the nasolabial folds are softened. Because the lift comes from repositioning the deeper tissue rather than pulling at the skin, the change reads as restored volume rather than tightening.
When combined with a short scar neck lift, this forms a wider approach to facial rejuvenation that avoids any incisions in front of the ears. For the right patient it offers a comprehensive result with scars confined to the hairline and behind the ear. Because the lift is created through hairline incisions and the tension sits high on the face, this combination is sometimes described as a “ponytail facelift”, a popular name for the effect rather than a distinct operation.
This approach is not suited to everyone. It works best where the concern is midface and cheek descent rather than significant jowling or lower face laxity, in which case a Deep Plane Facelift will usually give a more complete and longer-lasting result. Brow Lift Risks and Complications
Every procedure carries some risk, and a Brow Lift is no exception. Mr Yapa will talk you through the potential risks in full during your consultation and before surgery, so that you feel well-informed and prepared. Some possible complications include:
Anaesthesia Risks
As with any procedure involving anaesthesia, there is a small chance of a reaction or complication. Your anaesthetist will review your medical history beforehand to keep this risk as low as possible.
Bleeding
Some bleeding is expected during surgery, but excessive bleeding, either during or shortly after the procedure, is a rare complication that is monitored for and managed closely.
Elevated Hairline
Depending on the incision technique used, there is a small possibility of a change in the position or height of the hairline. Mr Yapa selects the approach best suited to your features to minimise this.
Eye Dryness or Irritation
Some patients experience dryness or irritation of the eyes after surgery. This is usually temporary and settles as you heal, though in rare cases it can persist for longer.
Facial Asymmetry

Eyebrow Lift Recovery

0 – 48 Hours
Discomfort is usually most noticeable in the first 48 hours. Mr Yapa will arrange suitable pain relief, and following the timings and dosage closely, along with the wider aftercare advice you are given, makes a real difference. Setting up a comfortable space at home, prioritising rest, and sleeping in a position that protects the surgical site will all help.
1 – 2 Weeks
Gentle walking is encouraged during the first couple of weeks, and most patients complete their initial recovery within around 10 to 14 days. Some bruising and swelling is normal at this stage and will gradually begin to settle.
2 – 4 Weeks
Regular exercise can usually be reintroduced from around four weeks, depending on how you are healing. Any remaining bruising continues to fade over this period.
4 – 6 Weeks
Your full result typically becomes visible between four and six weeks, as the last of the swelling resolves, though in some cases mild swelling can take a little longer to fully settle.

Am I a good candidate for a brow lift?
Good candidates for a Brow Lift are generally in good general health, at a stable weight, and either non-smokers or willing to stop smoking for six weeks before and after surgery. An open, realistic outlook on the results matters too. There is no upper age limit, though most patients are between 35 and 60, when changes around the brow tend to become more noticeable. Younger patients with brow ptosis or forehead lines may also be suitable. Mr Yapa will discuss what is right for you at your consultation.

Will a surgical brow lift be painful?

Can I combine a brow lift with other procedures?
A Brow Lift is often performed alongside other facial procedures, such as eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty), including an Upper Eyelid Lift and/or Lower Eyelid Lift, a Facelift, or Facial Fat Grafting, for a fuller rejuvenation of the upper face. Where the endoscopic technique is used, the dissection can also be extended into the midface as part of an Endoscopic Facelift, lifting the cheek through the same incisions, an approach sometimes referred to as a “ponytail facelift”.
