Brow Lift Surgery

Our forehead and brows are paramount to the way in which we want to express ourselves; be it with joy, anger, or sadness. In some instances, however, the persistent effects of external factors like sunlight, alongside inherent processes such as ageing, result in a downward drift of the brow and forehead muscles. The outcome? A facial expression that might leave you looking sad, fatigued, or even irritable.

A Brow Lift, or a forehead lift, is a surgical procedure that seeks to address these changes by focusing on one of the initial areas of the face to showcase signs of ageing: the forehead. By utilising a series of specialised incisions, the procedure smoothens the forehead and readjusts the position of the brow to its original location above the orbital rim. This not only helps to reduce the appearance of excess skin on the upper eyes but also effectively reduces the visible signs of age, stress, and fatigue. The ultimate goal of a brow lift surgery in London is a rejuvenated appearance reflecting a youthful and energetic ‘vibe’.

Benefits of Brow Lift Surgery

Choosing whether a brow lift surgery is right for you can be difficult. After all, with a plethora of products and cosmetic procedures on the market, it can be tricky to navigate which one attends to all of your needs. Below are just a few of the benefits that a brow lift surgery can bring. Use these to help you set realistic expectations for what a brow lift can do for you:

  • Refined Facial Texture:

A brow lift strategically addresses the initial and often conspicuous signs of ageing around the eyes and forehead. It reduces the appearance of wrinkles, crow’s feet, and sagging skin, presenting a smoother, revitalised facial texture without resorting to more invasive procedures such as a full facelift.

  • Elevating and Tightening Sagging Skin:

The procedure is effective in lifting and tightening the skin around the eyes. Sagging eyelids and crepey skin are gently uplifted through the brow lift, providing a subtle yet impactful refresh to the facial appearance.

  • Symmetrical Enhancement of Brow Positioning:

A brow lift can also adeptly address asymmetry, balancing the brow line and correcting looks of constant worry.

  • Multi-Faceted Approach to signs of Ageing:

Brow lifts are comprehensive albeit smaller procedures that take a multifaceted approach to aesthetic enhancement, simultaneously addressing several common signs of ageing such as forehead wrinkles, bunny lines, and sagging brows and eyelids. Essentially, it operates akin to a localised facelift, concentrating on rejuvenating the upper facial region.

  • Boosting Confidence Through Restored Youthfulness:

The subtle yet distinct results from a brow lift often lead to improved self-confidence and self-esteem.

Brow Lift Surgery: How it Works

Mr Kshem Yapa will perform brow lift surgery and all other cosmetic procedures in a sterile operating theatre, equipped with the latest surgical equipment, and fully staffed. Once you’ve confirmed that a brow lift is for you, an appointment will be booked to confirm your surgery date. This is how a brow lift surgery will typically go:

  • Administering Anaesthesia

To ensure comfort and a pain-free experience during the procedure, anaesthesia will be administered by a certified anaesthetist. The procedure will be performed under general anaesthesia.

  • Making the Incision

The technique utilised for making the incision can vary based on the specific needs and goals of the procedure. Two predominant methods are often considered:

Method 1: Endoscopic Incision. Small incisions are made within the hairline, and an endoscope, which is a slim tube equipped with a camera, is inserted. This technology, alongside other surgical instruments, enables Mr Kshem Yapa to adjust the tissue and muscle beneath the skin, directly addressing the root causes of visible forehead creases and furrows.

Method 2: Coronal Incision. Alternatively, a coronal incision may be used, extending from ear to ear across the top of the head, concealed within the hairline. Through this approach, the forehead skin is lifted, allowing any necessary muscle adjustments to be made under direct visualisation, with the resultant scar typically well-hidden within the hair.

Different scenarios and aesthetic goals may dictate the use of alternative incision methods, such as an incision at the anterior hairline for women with high foreheads, facilitating a brow lift without modifying the height of the front hairline. This will be confirmed with you during your initial consultation.

  • Adjusting and Closing

After making the necessary muscular and tissue adjustments to achieve the desired lift and smoothness, the incisions are closed. Various methods, including removable or absorbable sutures, skin adhesives, or special clips, might be used to make sure scarring is kept at a minimum.

  • Revealing the Results

The final outcomes of a brow lift become increasingly apparent in the weeks following the procedure, as any swelling and bruising progressively subside. Comprehensive information regarding what to expect during the recovery phase and how to best facilitate healing will be provided by Mr Kshem Yapa.

Risks and Complications

Undertaking a brow lift procedure is a significant decision and, like all surgeries, comes with potential risks. Detailed information about these and other potential risks will be thoroughly discussed during your consultation and prior to surgery with Mr Kshem Yapa, ensuring that you are well informed and prepared for the procedure. Below are some complications that can occur:

Reactions or complications related to administered anaesthesia.

Excessive bleeding during or after the procedure.

Potential alterations or elevation to the hairline.

Temporary or prolonged eye discomfort post-surgery.

Unexpected unevenness in facial features.

Rare instances of facial nerve damage or altered sensations.

Recovery

Recovery from a brow lift typically takes up to two weeks, with initial discomfort most notable in the first 48 hours. It’s important to make sure you make your environment at home more comfortable, prioritising rest and ensuring you sleep in a way that doesn’t cause further pain to the surgical site.

Gentle walking may be encouraged within the first two weeks, progressively reintroducing regular exercise routines after approximately four weeks, depending on how your body heals.

It’s normal to experience some bruising and swelling following the procedure, but this should generally subside within the first few weeks. Do bear in mind that swelling can last for up to 6 weeks in certain instances. Full results of your brow lift will become apparent in the 4-6 week mark.
